You must be connected to the internet first.

User does not need to be an Administrator, but the Administrator password will be needed to add the printers. To print on a Harker campus, one must have a Harker user name and password that is permitted to print. Summer employees will be provided a shared Harker user name and password to be used for printing.

The actual printer name is needed before it can be added. The networked printer should be labeled with its name.  It will be something like: BLD_G141_HP3525_COLOR  (campus-asset location-mfr and model number-color printer) . Duplexers (double-sided printers) have an Eco-Friendly sticker with trees on it.

The Harker print servers are:  stg_print (Saratoga), bld_print (Blackford), bkn_print (Bucknall) and unn_print (Union).  The server name should match the campus where the printer resides.

c. Click on Done

Adding a Printer

1. Open System Preferences

2. Click on Printers & Scanners (Print & Scan)

3. Click on the Plus at the bottom of the Printers left side bar

4. Click the Advanced Cog icon you added in step 3 and wait a bit.

5. Under Type, select the last entry: Windows printer via spools

6. Enter the url as:  smb://print_server/printer_name

The Harker print servers are: stg_print (Saratoga), bld_print (Blackford), bkn_print (Bucknall) and unn_print (Union).  The server name should match the campus were the printer resides.

As an example smb://BLD_print/BLD_M030_HP025_Color

7. Change the name of the printer to something easier to remember.

8. Fill in the location, if you want, for future reference

9. Click the down arrow in the Use section and choose Select Printer Software

The last section of the printer name is for the manufacture and model.  All of the networked HP printers are LaserJet printers.   In the filter section, start typing the model number slowly as there are some printers that do not match exactly.  As you type, the choices will decrease and make it easier to pick the correct printer software.  Do not choose Gutenprint drivers, fax series drivers, or Generic printer drivers.  For example on the above printer, after I typed 202, there are only 4 print drivers left.  The correct driver for the 2025 printer is HP Color LaserJet CP2020 Series with Duplexer.  Duplexers have an Eco-Friendly sticker with trees on it. Note, if I had entered 2025 in the search bar, no results would have been returned as the driver is not for the specific printer model, it is for a series of printer models.

a. Once you have found the driver, select it and click the OK button.  The Use box should be populated with the driver name you picked.

b.  Click add

c.  Be sure to check the duplex option box if the printer is a duplexer.

                      d. If you are adding a Konica Minolta BizHub printer, click on Options and choose  Finisher. FS-535 will add the stapler feature and PK-521 will add the 2/3 hole punch. If you miss doing this when you add the print, it can be done after the printer is added.

Mac First time printing on a campus

The very first time one prints on a campus, a Windows Print server authentication screen will appear.

In the log in screen, type your Harker user name followed by @harker.org  This applies to students as well as employees. The @harker.org is needed instead of students.harker.org, summer.harker.org or staff.harker.org as the domain name is harker.org  All students and employees are members of the harker.org domain.  An example:  18chrisg@harker.org  Remember, if you are a Summer employee, the name MUST be the shared Harker user name and password for printing. (i.e. sumstaffms@harker.org)

Enter the Harker username, Harker password and check the Remember this password in my keychain box.
