When making an iMovie, you may sometimes want to download an actual movie for sharing rather than upload your movie to YouTube, iTunes or Vimeo.  If you do want a file, iMovie allows you Share your file to *.mp4.

First, select the Share button when you have completed your iMovie.
The Share menu has several options.  Select File.

To Export iMovie, Click Share button in open iMovie Project   Select File if you want to create a file on your computer



Next you will need to designate a Size or Quality to your movie.  If you have a really high quality film with lots of detailed graphics you may want to select a High Definition size like 720p.  Typical shared video files use the Standard Definition size of 480p.

The location of the downloaded file is completely up to you.  If you want to easily share the file with others without using email or a sharing service like YouTube, I would recommend saving to Google Drive where you can select the users that you want to have access to your file.
